The Democratic Socialists of America, an insurgent faction within the Democratic Party, are riding a moment of prominence, and their ascent is signaling something worthy of attention: this is the democracy John Adams warned us would arise.
Taking into account socialism’s record in government, critics of the DSA and of its platform have legitimate reasons to doubt that these radicals genuinely prioritize the democratic aspect of democratic socialism, and that the word “Democratic” in the group’s name carries any real significance beyond what it does in the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea.
