Public opinion surveys conducted and published this summer reveal the familiar partisan split in attitudes toward the Supreme Court. Republicans are not only more inclined than Democrats to approve of how the court carries out its duties (74 percent compared with 22 percent, per the Marquette Law School Poll); they also appear less likely than Democrats to claim that the court wields excessive power or that it has granted the president too much authority.
